Beginning in 1989 from the hearts of a group of blues lovers, Piazza Blues has evolved over the years and has grown to become one of the most important European summer festivals of its kind. The main feature of Piazza Blues which makes it so very special is its programme, exclusively offering blues music, in all its styles and genres. And this rigorous artistic choice is the key to the success of the Bellinzona festival; his history is full of prestigious names and almost all the best blues men and women in the world have performed on stage in Bellinzona. Many of them have also taken advantage of the chance to play at Piazza Blues to launch new albums; others have been thrust onto the world music scene thanks to their Bellinzona performance.
The concerts take place under the floodlit walls of Castelgrande, an impressive backdrop with excellent acoustics. Along with the main program of concerts, there are many other smaller events of various kinds.
